This website began as a way for me to document building the little wooden
boat you see above - Lil Woody. I never had any thought of building
another boat. What I found is that I enjoy the building process as much as
getting on the water with the finished product. Don't get me wrong, there
are times of frustration and towards the end I found I had to push myself to
get it finished. In actuality, that had nothing to do with the building of the
boat. I enjoyed that. But I ran over schedule and did not finish it until July
meaning I missed weekends on the lake in June and July. So I will plan
better next time to avoid this quandary.
Then I saw this website as more of an aquatic project page for me. I'm
thinking a winter boat build every year until I get tired of building and move
on to conquer something new.
Now I have decided to just created an individual website for each project
and link them to each other. This is what you have before you now.
Building a boat is not for everyone. You could certainly buy a used
water-ready boat for less than it costs to build one from scratch. You could
not buy a new one for less though. Either way, you won't get the thumbs up
from passers-by while towing a new boat down the highway like I do towing
Lil Woody. If I tie up at a community dock, there is always a person or two
looking it over when I return. My favorite question I get is "Wow! What year
is it?" The replies I get when I reply "2007" are priceless.
So should you build one? That just depends on you. All I can say is that if I
had to do it all over again - I would. Just the second time I would make a lot
fewer mistakes!
Lil Woody is finished. Lil Tug is finished. I wasjust in time for my daughter's
4th birthday. Just what every four year old needs - right? Now I have
begun the restoration of a 1955 Century Resorter and another Tug build.
