UPDATES   2

I ran out of epoxy so this is the
stopping point on 01-27.  A
quick trip to
West Marine and
$130 of epoxy and 'll be back at
it tomorrow.

West Epoxy is really good stuff.
But it is not what I normally use.
 I have found a newer
technology epoxy that I like
better and is considerably less
expensive when ordered in bulk
on line from

This is where I stand as of
01-28.  I'm on the road for the
next 10 days with work so there
won't be any updates until then.

I ran out of epoxy again as you
can see on the upper left side of
the picture.  I've got 6 gallons on
the way.

Here I have added filler, silica,
and tint to epoxy and faired the
bottom of the boat.  Next I will
sand it to a mirror like finish and
polish it.  Its a lot of work for
something you never see when
its in the water!

Keel strip installed and ready for
paint.  It doesn't look like much
work since last time but the
sanding and prep work to make
the fiberglass smooth is a
lengthly process.   The tinted
epoxy did not give me an even
color so I have decided to paint
after all.

Also adding to the lengthy
process were the two mistakes
I had to fix!

After all that work tinting the
epoxy I decided to paint it
anyway.

Here you see two coats of
marine primer following LOTS
of sanding.

AND - The finished product.

Here you see four coats of
Ocean Blue Hawthorne
Polyurethane Yacht Enamel.

Next project is flipping the hull
February 25, 2007

I needed something to do
while waiting on paint to dry
so I built the center console.

I'm a tall guy so I built it to fit
me.  The front is a seat with
storage underneath large
enough for a 24" cooler.

It will be finished in white
yacht enamel with African
Mahogany  trim and a
windshield that folds.  I need
the windshield to fold so the
boat can fit in the garage.

An upright hull - FINALLY!
March 11, 2007

Transom cut away and two
coats of epoxy on the inside of
the hull.
March 11, 2007

This is the beginning of the
transom and motorwell.  It is
marine foam filled under the
platform.  I am awaiting the
arrival of my tank before
finishing.

Aluminum bow guard and
bow eye installed.  Notice the
stripe that was white is now
blue.
